There are many restaurants along the marina area of Marseille and therefore I did not expect it to be so hard to find a place to eat. But although most places have menu boards out, they're all in French. When we asked about English menus, most places very rudely answered "No!"

So instead as we walked by each restaurant, we'd look on the tables to see what other people were eating. The trouble with that is...it was noon and 99% of the people we saw were only drinking, coffee or alcohol, and people watching...no one was eating! Do the French not eat lunch?

We came across La Chope D'Or and their menu was bilingual. The waiter near the front that greeted us was quite friendly and although he didn't speak English, he asked another lady, it was either the owner or manager, to help us. She spoke some English and so we decided to dine here.

Hubby ordered the beef lasagna (Lasagnes au Boeuf) which came with a nice side salad. He was happy with his selection and actually liked it more than the lasagna he had a couple nights prior in Genoa, Italy.

I had the salmon pasta (Pates au Saumon Frais et Coriandre). A generous amount of linguine noodles were topped with salmon in sauce and decorated with 4 mussels. The pasta was nice and al dente and I quite liked the sauce, it was nice and mild and too salty. They gave a decent amount of salmon however it was slightly overlooked and therefore dry. The mussels were just ok too, very tiny and a bit dirty so I ate only a couple of them.

Overall it was an enjoyable menu with a nice view.

Crowded but got seated right away.  Along the perimeter of old port.  Service was efficient and quick. I had beef lasagna with salad. Friend had chicken, fries and salad.  Prices are not unreasonable. Friend also had a dessert that he finished.  I was stuffed from finishing my entree.  Good value for your money.

Ordered the beef lasagna and mussels/fries. The lasagna was a good size and tasty. A little to soft and mushy for my taste. The mussels were good and tasty. A white wine sauce was spot on. Lots of mussels but quite a few empty shells. We mentioned to the waiter and they were very responsive to fix it. They brought back a new order and had lots more mussels with 'meat'. Excellent service.

Saw others order the grilled fish and it looked delicious.
